I was wrong! Of course the album's a little over-the-top - it just wouldn't be a Christmas album if it weren't! :) Kristin's voice is so pretty and, especially on the slower tracks (like the lounge-y, warm and cozy 'I'll Be Home For Christmas'), conveys the emotions of the lyrics beautifully. Songs like 'Christmas Island' (a kicky tune!), 'Sleigh Ride/Marshmallow World' (a sweet duet with John Pizzarelli), and 'Come On Ring Those Bells' (a seasonal hoe-down!) evoke the fun and excitement of the Christmas season, and Kristin's take on old Christmas favorites, like the orchestral 'Do You Hear What I Hear?', country-fied 'Silver Bells,' and magically haunting 'What Child Is This?', will be sure to bring back memories of Christmases past.
The album's original tracks, 'Home On Christmas Day' (my favorite of the two) and 'Born On Christmas Day,' have a wonderful Christmas feeling - and may just end up being new Christmas classics! Also be sure to listen out for the dreamy 'The Christmas Waltz,' 'Sing' (a tune originally written for Big Bird!), and the gorgeous album closer 'Sleep Well Little Children/What A Wonderful World.'
Check out the album and listen to clips (plus watch of video of Kristin talking about the album!) at Amazon! :)
Cheery bye, Scarlett
