Elika - Trying Got Us Nowhere (2008)

Elika - Trying Got Us Nowhere (2008)I've got another cool band that popped up in my inbox to tell you about! I'm loving Elika's new album, Trying Got Us Nowhere. If you're into dreamy, downtempo electronica, you need to check out Elika!

Trying Got Us Nowhere has a lovely, delicate sound, like aural candy floss. The layers of guitars and keyboards make wonderfully lush sonic landscapes (most apparently on the vocal-less 'Confidence Killed My Spirit'), and lead vocalist Evagelia's voice floats sweetly but surely above the mix (as in the atmospheric - and my favorite track on the album - 'To The End'). Elika's excellent ambient artistry is put on display on 'Nowhere' and can even be heard in more upbeat tracks like 'The Whip' and 'Let Down.' Elika create a bleak but beautiful mood in 'They'll Hate Us,' and album closer 'Eliana' is a pretty little song that works perfectly as the conclusion to the album - it's short but so sweet and leaves you wanting to listen to the album all over again.

Do yourself a favor and discover Elika. You won't be sorry! Learn more about them at their website or MySpace, and you can buy Trying Got Us Nowhere on iTunes!

Cheery bye, Scarlett
